Guiyang mayor emphasizes construction of new-type think tank

Chen Yan, mayor of the Guiyang municipal government and deputy secretary of the CPC Guiyang Municipal Committee, paid a visit to the Guiyang Innovation-Driven Development Research Institute in Guizhou University, Southwest China's Guizhou province on Aug 14, conducting a field investigation of the new think tank.

After watching a documentary and exhibition on the institute's achievements over the past five years, as well as learning its structures, development, research direction, and theoretical achievements, Chen expressed his thanks for its great contributions to Guiyang's economic development.

He said the institute, which serves as a new-type think tank, has played an important role in offering suggestions, promoting theoretical innovation, exploring local culture, collecting public opinions, as well as propelling big data and ecological development.

During the investigation, he also emphasized the great value of intellectual resources and urged departments at different levels that they should put new think tank construction on the top of the working list, to improve and support a long-term mechanism, where new-type think tanks can have great influence. 

The institute should further research on high-level and high-quality policies, city expansion, real economy development, hometown beautification, and livelihood improvement, he said. 

As for unique development advantages, the mayor encouraged it to secure a commanding height on the innovation of big data theories and rules, as well as innovate the practices of ecological civilization construction and Yangming culture, to accelerate Guiyang's efforts in developing itself into an influential international metropolis in West China and a medium-high consumption trade and manufacturing city. 

Other participants of the investigation included Guiyang Vice-mayor Tang Xinglun and several officials from the institute.
