Looking to venture out during autumn? Then head to Jiulong Mountain in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province. Here are some travel tips.
Jiulong Mountain is located on the west bank of Baihua Lake. From the mountaintop, you can overlook the city across the lake. The mountain spans over 10 kilometers, with nine branches resembling winding dragons giving it its name.
In 2020, Jiulong Mountain was selected as one of the top 10 peaks in Guiyang, becoming a leisure tourism destination for hiking, trekking and cycling that is beloved by locals.
Travel route
Visitors can drive to the Youth Outdoor Activity Camp on Jiulong Mountain in Baihuahu town.
Before entering the forest area, any ignition sources must be handed in, and smoking, picnicking, barbecuing, or any other outdoor fire-related activities are not allowed. Visitors should leave lighters, matches and other such items at the forest fire prevention checkpoint before entering the forest area and retrieve them when leaving.
Visitors are required to cooperate with staff members to hand in ignition sources and maintain the green mountains and clear waters of Jiulong Mountain.

The one-way hiking duration is about one hour, covering a distance of approximately 3.2 km. There are four rest stops along the way. Visitors should walk in groups and hike safely without taking any off-road paths.
Due to the rocky hiking trails and high foot traffic, four-wheeled vehicles are prohibited from entering Jiulong Mountain for safety reasons. Bicycles, two-wheeled electric vehicles (with engines above two kilowatts), and motorcycles are allowed.

To ensure safety and convenience for visitors, vehicles should be parked in a standardized manner according to road signs and then visitors should walk to the summit. All three parking lots are free of charge.
Catering guide
At the foot of Jiulong Mountain, there are many snack stalls offering delicious food such as spicy chicken noodles, coffee and fried potatoes.
Medical service station
A medical service station is located at the foot of Jiulong Mountain, with medics providing services around the clock. It is equipped with first aid kits, electronic blood pressure monitors, stretchers, wheelchairs, canes, and other emergency equipment. There is also a rest area, providing timely, safe and efficient emergency services for the safety of visitors.
Hiking preparation
In autumn, there is a large temperature difference between day and night. Visitors should prepare warm clothing and pay close attention to their health. Carry necessary medications and do not force yourself to climb if you are feeling unwell.
Choose the right hiking route and time: Before traveling, please pay attention to weather changes, try to avoid traveling on rainy days, be aware of traffic conditions, and be cautious of rockfalls and road collapses in mountainous areas.
Notes
Visitors should be respectful of the natural environment in Jiulong Mountain's forest area. Do not litter, carve or draw, and mind the flowers, plants, and trees along the way.
Baihuahu town has launched an environmental protection incentive wherein all visitors can exchange garbage (mineral water bottles, fruit peels, white garbage, etc.) accumulated during their hike for free mineral water at the supply station at the foot of the mountain.
