Pianpo Bouyei township, located just 30 kilometers from the center of Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, is the smallest township in the city, with Bouyei people accounting for 97 percent of the population.
It boasts beautiful mountains and waters, with a forest coverage rate of 64.19 percent, and is rich in Bouyei culture.
Its unique Bouyei dwellings are built along the mountainside, blending harmoniously with the surrounding natural environment, and its rich cuisine attracts many food enthusiasts.
Pianpo's Xiayuan village boasts a beautiful natural environment, with more than 40 rare trees over a hundred years old scattered throughout the village. The well-preserved Bouyei dwellings are stacked and scattered.
The ethnic charm of Xiayuan runs deep, and it boasts rich folk activities such as Bouyei brewing, embroidery, and Bouyei Pangu song, which have great development potential and have been listed as provincial and municipal intangible cultural heritage items for protection.
Walking down the street in Xiayuan, visitors are treated to clean and tidy blue-white slate roads lined with unique dwellings. The walls are adorned with paintings depicting the making of rice wine, civilized etiquette, and ethnic songs and dances, reflecting Bouyei's folk customs, agriculture and food culture.
These paintings not only showcase the daily lives of the Bouyei people, but also improve the image of the village.
Utilizing traditional handmade brewing techniques, a cultural commercial street called "Bouyei rice wine street" has been built, showcasing the ancient charm and Bouyei style of Pianpo.
The street is brimming with the aroma of rice wine, and popular agricultural products such as smoked pork and free-range eggs are sold there.
