At 11 am on Aug 29, a new energy heavy-duty truck carrying 11 metric tons of liquid crystal display panels and screens exited from the main checkpoint of Gui'an Free Trade Zone (Gui'an FTZ) after inspection by Gui'an New Area Customs, heading towards Dongguan in South China's Guangdong province.
This marks the first time that a new energy heavy-duty truck has been used for the long-distance transportation of goods within Gui'an FTZ's logistics channel connecting Guizhou and Guangdong.
He Zhouyu, director of Gui'an FTZ bureau of commerce, said that the trial run for pure electric heavy-duty trucks aligns with green development concepts throughout the modern logistics development, while also further improving the quality, efficiency, and cost reduction in the logistics industry in Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area.
The green cross-border logistics highway transportation team, featuring pure electric heavy-duty trucks, is the result of collaboration between Gui'an FTZ and Gui'an's local enterprises in Gui'an to achieve the "logistics channel + trade + industry" effect.
"This trial run used the 'Guizhou' brand new energy heavy-duty truck produced by Gui'an's Guizhou Changjiang Automobile Co, with Gui'an FTZ's Guizhou Chefu Technology Co responsible for the transportation of import and export products," He said.
Before the trial run, the zone surveyed the route, identified the locations for charging stations along the way, and calculated the total costs.
The move is also expected to enhance the zone's opening-up, make it easier for enterprises in the zone to transport goods, and attracts foreign trade projects.
To promote electrification in the industry, since 2023, Guizhou and Guiyang have introduced policies to support the development of the new energy vehicle industry, including relaxing the priority passage rights for new energy trucks in urban areas, which provides market opportunities for the development of special new energy vehicles.
In the future, Gui'an FTZ will rely on a government-guided, enterprise-led, and multi-party cooperation model to build a green, low-carbon, modern and comprehensive transportation logistics system.
By further leveraging the advantages of highway transportation teams, better serving foreign trade enterprises in Guiyang and Gui'an, and supporting the construction of a hub for inland open economy, the zone will boost the development of the green industry.
