Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, was selected as the 2024 national pilot city for the digital transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It will receive 150 million yuan in central financial subsidies to support the digital transformation and service capability improvement of SMEs.

A total of 43 cities nationwide have applied for the designation, with 36 cities included in the pilot program. Pilot cities will categorize industries for digital transformation, establish a number of benchmark digital transformation enterprises, nurture high-quality digital service providers, and develop a range of "small, fast, light, and precise" digital solutions and products.

They will also explore methods, market mechanisms, and typical models for the digital transformation of SMEs, as well as enhance the competitiveness and high-quality development of SMEs.

Through demonstration, learning by example, and promoting successful experience, they will guide and accelerate digital transformation, raise the digitalization level, promote the deep integration of digital technology and the real economy, and drive the integrated development of large, medium, and small-sized enterprises.

Guiyang will focus on the textile industry, pharmaceutical manufacturing industry, computer, telecom and other electronic equipment manufacturing industries, chemical raw materials and chemical product manufacturing industries, non-ferrous metal smelting and rolling processing industry, railway, shipbuilding, aerospace, and other transportation equipment manufacturing industries.

The city will concentrate on computing power, empowerment, and industry to carry out the digital transformation of SMEs, becoming a city of digital transformation and innovation among the underdeveloped areas of West China.

According to the pilot plan, through the in-depth digital transformation of SMEs, all 393 SMEs in Guiyang included in the pilot program will achieve a digitalization level of two or above.

At the same time, 30 benchmark digital transformation enterprises will be nurtured, 16 typical cases of "chain" digital transformation for SMEs will be released, and at least seven industrial clusters for the digital transformation of SMEs will be cultivated.

At least 60 "small, fast, light, and precise" products will be developed and the capabilities of local digital service providers will be improved.

These efforts will further the digital transformation of SMEs in the province, boost green and low-carbon development, and play a demonstrative role in promoting the ecological protection and high-quality development of Guizhou.
