The 2024 Guiyang Baiyun International Kite Festival, National Kite Invitational Tournament, and 15th Baiyun Kite Carnival opened at Quanhu Park in Baiyun district, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, on the morning of May 17.
More than 35 kite teams from home and abroad, and over 150 kite-fliers, kite enthusiasts, and more, gathered to enjoy this grand kite feast.
The theme of this year's kite festival is "Cool Guiyang, Soaring Baiyun." From May 17 to 20, domestic and international kite-fliers competed fiercely in 20 kite competition categories, including traditional kites, best performance kites, large and medium-sized dragon kites, and the most beautiful soft kites.
"Guiyang is a beautiful city with a long history and rich cultural heritage. This international kite festival has become a mass sports and cultural activity that integrates international, ethnic, and fashion elements. It is an opportunity to showcase the city's image and also serves as a platform for opening-up," said Hou Qiuling, secretary-general of the Chinese Kite Association.

In addition to the series of kite competitions, this year's kite festival also featured a variety of carnival activities centered around kites, including the Second Baiyun Night Glowing Kite Competition 2024, Guiyang Roadside Concert (Quanhu Lake), drone performances, "Playing with the Wind" Sports Meeting, and "Cool Guiyang, Soaring Baiyun" Kite Culture Exhibition.
These activities brought new sights and experiences that integrated elements such as sports, culture, art, tourism, and consumption for the public.
The Guiyang Baiyun International Kite Festival has been held 14 times since 1989. In 2002, the General Administration of Sport of China awarded Baiyun the title of "hometown of kite flying in West China."
