Guiyang becomes popular travel destination during May Day holiday

During the May Day holiday, which lasted from May 1 to 5 this year, hotel bookings in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, surged by 15 percent on the Ctrip platform, with outbound travel bookings up by 66 percent and inbound travel bookings up by 94 percent.

Guiyang's major tourist sources included Chongqing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Zunyi, with locals flocking to destinations such as Chongqing, Chengdu, Zunyi, Bijie, and Kunming.

Attractions like Huaxi Yelang Valley, Qingyan Ancient Town, Guizhou Polar Ocean World, Tianhetan Tourist Resort, and Guizhou Forest Wildlife Zoo became trending hotspots.

Statistics revealed a 30-percent year-on-year increase in domestic car rental orders during the May Day holiday. Guiyang, Chengdu, Shanghai, Haikou, Beijing, Urumqi, Kunming, Sanya, Xi'an, and Hangzhou were among the top 10 cities for self-driving trips during the May Day holiday.

Moreover, according to data from the tourism website Mafengwo, Guiyang ranked 10th in popular cities during the 2024 May Day holiday.

Mafengwo's data showed that young travelers preferred exploring the off-the-beaten-path ancient villages to experience authentic local life. The top 10 most popular ancient villages during the 2024 May Day holiday were Nanxun Ancient Town, the Wuyuan Huangling Scenic Area, Hongcun village, One-Thousand-Household Miao Village of Xijiang, Luoyi Ancient City, Zhagana village, Qingyan Ancient Town, Pingyao Ancient City, Huishan Ancient Town, and Xidi town.

With the enrichment of urban nightscapes and the development of the nighttime economy, more tourists are drawn to exploring the city at night.

The dazzling city lights, bustling night markets, and unique nighttime performances offer a diverse range of entertainment and experiences for visitors.

Mafengwo's data indicated a 117-percent month-on-month increase in searches for "night tours" during the 2024 May Day holiday, with attractions like nighttime museums, boat tours, and zoo adventures becoming new highlights.

China's top 10 "night tour" hotspots during the holiday were Chongqing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Guilin, Hong Kong, Wuhan, Xishuangbanna, Guiyang, Lanzhou, and Shenyang.
