A sturgeon breeding demonstration base with a total investment of 15 million yuan in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, is slated to start operating in June this year.

Located in Xishan town, Xifeng county, it is expected to produce 8 million sturgeon fries annually, generating a yearly output value of 12 million yuan. It will also be the largest sturgeon breeding base in Guiyang.

Construction on the base started in November 2023, and the first and second workshops, office buildings, and hatchery workshops have been completed.

Spanning approximately 28 mu (1.87 hectares), the base includes the construction of eight factorized breeding workshops, 1,017 2-meter diameter breeding ponds, and ancillary facilities such as management buildings, environmental protection facilities, water supply and drainage systems, and power systems.

The base is expected to contribute over 40,000 yuan annually to the village's collective economy. During the construction phase, more than 30 villagers were employed, earning a combined total of around 300,000 yuan.

Once operational, the base will provide steady employment for over 15 local people, while also creating temporary job opportunities for over 100 people in surrounding areas, with an anticipated income boost of approximately 600,000 yuan for the community.

In recent years, Xishan town has been promoting ecological aquaculture, leveraging its natural resources to stimulate the economic growth of the collective economy, support rural vitalization, and increase the incomes of farmers.

Xishan currently has an area of over 100 mu dedicated to ecological aquaculture. By tapping into local water resources and prioritizing rural water management initiatives, the town aims to enhance water quality and the surrounding environment.

By integrating the fishing and water environment with tourism, Xishan will continue to enhance its ecological aquaculture appeal.
