According to the "2023 innovation capacity evaluation report of national innovative cities" recently released by the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China, Guiyang's innovation capacity index is 59.64, an increase of 0.9 compared to the previous year.
Guiyang ranked 27th out of 101 national innovative cities and maintained its position as the third-ranking innovative city in West China. The report also published the list of the top 100 cities in terms of innovation capacity nationwide (including non-national innovative cities), with Guiyang ranking 28th, rising one place from last year.
National innovative cities refer to cities with strong independent innovation capabilities, a prominent role in technological support, high levels of economic and social sustainable development, and the ability to stimulate development in surrounding areas.
The Ministry of Science and Technology evaluates the national innovative cities every year based on 30 indicators in five categories - innovation governance, original innovation, technological innovation, achievements commercialization, and innovation driving force.
Since being approved as a national innovative city in 2017, Guiyang has accelerated efforts to improve its innovative capacity.
Currently, Guiyang city and Gui'an New Area are home to 33 national-level technologically advanced little giant enterprises (those specializing in niche sectors, commanding high market shares and boasting storing innovative capacity), and 216 provincial-level technologically advanced small and medium-sized enterprises.
They are also home to 172 provincial-level innovative small and medium-sized enterprises, 126 incubators (maker spaces), and 18 technology-based enterprises listed on the main board, growth enterprises market, and science and technology innovation board.
Guiyang and Gui'an have built industrial technology innovation centers focusing on the manufacturing industry of central-government-owned enterprises, advanced equipment manufacturing, new energy vehicles, electronic information manufacturing, aluminum and aluminum processing, phosphorus chemical industry, organic food, medicine, and software information and technology service industry
So far, Guiyang and Gui'an have established six national key laboratories, 55 provincial key laboratories, five national engineering technology research centers, 97 provincial engineering technology research centers, and 15 provincial and municipal new research and development institutions.
