The digital pavilion "Hongpiaodai" (red ribbon) themed on the Long March in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, started trial operation on Oct 22.

The pavilion is the first comprehensive immersive digital experience center in China dedicated to the theme of the Long March.

It aims to showcase the Long March culture through digital means, utilizing cutting-edge technology and audio-visual equipment to tell the story of the Long March to the world and pass on the revolutionary spirit.

The pavilion consists of two parts: the comprehensive immersive digital performance "Red Ribbon: The Great Journey" and the aerial performance "Red Ribbon: Fly Over Guizhou."

The former is composed of six chapters, including "nameless heroes", "baptism by blood and fire", "the great turning point", "forge ahead", "monument of victory", and "the new Long March in the new era".

It incorporates the latest technologies such as AI virtual interaction, multidimensional mechanical movement, virtual reality, and 3D sound field to digitally recreate the journey of the Long March.

The latter, "Red Ribbon: Fly Over Guizhou," is Guizhou's first 8K giant LED dome flight theater. Its suspended seating system and multidirectional motion chairs create an experience that makes audiences feel as though they were flying over the beautiful landscapes of Guizhou.

The Red Ribbon project is one of the key projects included in the "Long March National Cultural Park Construction and Protection Plan" and one of the important projects being promoted in Guizhou.

Chen Yu, former strategic department research fellow at the Academy of Military Science, said, "Guizhou has the longest duration of Red Army activity (up to five months) and the widest range of activities during the Long March. It has rich resources of red culture."

"The 'red ribbon' project uses cutting-edge digital technology and audio-visual equipment to tell the Long March story to the world. In the future, we should strive to explore more detailed stories about the spirit of the Zunyi Meeting and the extraordinary achievements of 'Crossing the Chishui River Four Times', and use advanced digital technology to vividly recreate history," Chen said.
