An exhibition of global rare newspapers and printing culture was held at the Guizhou Art Museum in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, from Oct 8 to Nov 5.

The exhibition was organized by the School of Journalism at Fudan University, the Guizhou Academy of Fine Arts (Guizhou Art Museum), and the art museum of the Guizhou branch of the China Democratic League.

As an extension of a global rare newspaper exhibition held in Shanghai in 2021, this exhibition featured over 200 newspapers from around the world, which recorded important historical events in Guizhou, China's other provinces and the world.

Starting from the publication of the London Gazette in 1675 and ending with the final issue of the Wiener Zeitung in 2023, the exhibition showcased the historical changes documented by the newspapers over the course of more than 300 years, with most of the exhibits being precious original newspapers.

"The exhibition is an important achievement of cooperation in the field of news and culture between Shanghai and Guizhou," said Xie Nian, deputy head of the publicity department of the CPC Guizhou Provincial Committee.

He emphasized that hosting of this exhibition was expected to be an important platform for helping Guizhou strengthen cultural exchanges, shape its cultural image, expand its cultural influence, and inspire cultural vitality.

At the exhibition site, a newspaper editorial office from the 1990s was arranged, allowing the public to observe the operational processes of printing up closely. With the assistance of staff, visitors were able to use a letterpress machine to print their own exhibition souvenirs.
