Aug 15 marked China's first National Ecological Day, which was themed on the philosophy that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets", a green development concept followed by Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

Guiyang is currently focusing on its status as a pilot area and demonstration area for ecological civilization construction, promoting the "ecologically-oriented city" strategy and targeting both environmental protection and economic growth.

Guiyang has improved its "cool Guiyang" reputation through environmental protection efforts and raised living standards.

Aside from its naturally advantageous subtropical plateau monsoon climate, Guiyang also benefits from its excellent natural environment.

Data shows that in 2022, Guiyang had a forest area of 5.54 million mu (369,553.33 hectares), with a forest coverage rate of 55.3 percent, ranking third among all provincial capitals in China.

The city boasts 2.18 million mu of forest belts and 1,025 parks, earning it the title of "city of parks." Throughout the year, Guiyang and Guian New Area achieved a 100-percent excellent air quality rate, and the water quality of 28 national and provincial control sections met national standards.
