Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, was selected to join the list of "2023 preferred summer tourism destinations" for its cool weather and abundant resources, according to the China Summer Tourism Development Report Conference held in Hubei on June 26.
The cities of Liupanshui and Anshun in Guizhou also made it onto the list.
In 2022, the city started to upgrade its "Cool Guiyang" brand. Focusing on attracting consumption, it has been improving its tourism products and services, strengthening its industrial chain, upgrading supporting facilities, and launching summer-themed activities.
With an average temperature of 22.3 Celsius, relative humidity ranging between 76 and 79 percent, over 10,000 negative oxygen ions per cubic centimeter, and an average wind speed below 3 meters per second, Guiyang's high altitude and low latitude create an ideal environment for a cool and refreshing summer. Back in 2007, the Chinese Meteorological Society awarded Guiyang the honorary title of "China's summer resort."
During the summer season, people flock to Guiyang from all over the country to enjoy its cool climate and explore its numerous attractions.
They often head to Qianling Mountain for a refreshing retreat, marvel at the waterfalls in the Nanjiang Grand Canyon, go drifting on the Taoyuan River, admire the caves in the Tianhetan Scenic Area, revel in the beauty of the lotus flowers at Huaxi Wetland Park, or have fun at the Four Seasons Guizhou Polar Adventure Water World.
But the summer experiences in Guiyang are not limited to traditional sightseeing. There are various activities available, such as camping, playing frisbee, paragliding, enjoying live outdoor concerts, and watching open-air movies.
For those seeking more adventure, opportunities include hiking, cycling, urban exploration, and other outdoor experiences.
