Guiyang, Guian strive to develop green economy

Guiyang and Guian New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province hope to promote green development through afforestation, carbon emission reduction, energy conservation and environmental protection, according to a news conference held on Jan 9.

It is expected that in 2023, Guiyang and Guian's green economy will account for 49 percent of GDP, and this proportion will exceed 50 percent by 2025.

Guiyang recently issued an implementation plan and related policies that focus on green economy and that promote green production, consumption, and living.

According to the plan, Guiyang will not only increase its forest area, but also accelerate the transformation of production methods to expand the scale of green economy.

By developing resource-saving and environment-friendly industries, Guiyang will accelerate the R&D of advanced technologies for energy conservation and carbon emission reduction. It will also promote the application of clean energy and achieve ultra-low carbon emissions in key areas.

Guiyang will stick to carbon peak and carbon neutralization in an orderly manner. It will also control the total volume and intensity of its energy consumption. Guiyang will ensure that all of its environmental quality indexes rank among the top in the province and the country, and promote environmental protection through ecological restoration and pollution prevention.
