The Global Big Data Exchange in Guiyang – capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – has seen 396 companies based there launch 502 big data products and it has also presided over 121 deals, worth more than 201 million yuan ($28.53 million), since its establishment in 2015.

As the first of its kind in China, the exchange has developed its organizational structure, data products, trading methods and its profit model, and built up invaluable experience in expanding a data market.

In 2021, a data circulation trade service center and Guizhou Technology Property Right Exchange Co were brought in to run the exchange. Since then, the exchange has established specialized sections to launch meteorological data and electricity data products, as well as collected data from Guizhou's 80 provincial government departments to share, use and transact government data.

On May 27 this year, the exchange released China's first data trading rules system to maximize the value of data, create an efficient business environment for data trading and standardize the operating mechanism of the exchange.

Moving forwards, the exchange aims to create a data market with a complete intellectual property right system, standardized circulation and trading, an orderly data supply, active market players, effective policies and strong market governance.
