Nanming district in Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has made great progress in new-type urbanization over the past 10 years.

Measures were taken to renovate shanty towns, upgrade the rural living environment, protect traditional culture, and improve the transportation network and social governance.

From 2012 to 2016, Nanming renovated 30 shanty towns in its jurisdiction.

From 2017 to 2021, another 65 shanty town renovation projects were completed.

In 2021 alone, Nanming renovated 10 old residential communities and 50 back streets and alleys.

Wire sorting, greening upgrading, pipe network transformation, elevator installation and parking space expansion were all within the scope of the renovation projects, giving old areas a brand-new look.

The Huaguoyuan area in Nanming district was once the largest shanty town in Guiyang city.

More than 100,000 people from around 20,000 households were relocated for the area's renovation and upgrading project.

Currently, the upgraded Huaguoyuan is home to enterprise headquarters, high-end agencies, convenient shopping malls and beautiful wetland parks.

Taking advantage of the cultural resources in the district, Nanming has been building an economic belt along the Nanming River featuring Jiaxiu Pavilion, Cuiwei Alley, Xihu Road, Jiandao Street and Memorial Tower.

To improve the transportation network, Nanming constructed 55 roads, including the Nanming section of Renmin Avenue and Huaguan Road.

The Nanming section of metro lines 1 and 2 was completed and put into operation.

Additionally, during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), Nanming added more than 8,000 public parking spaces, built 1,649 5G base stations, and built or renovated 13 garbage transfer stations and 30 public toilets. Illegal buildings covering an area of 2.54 million square meters were also demolished.
