The city of Guiyang – capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – had 301 people testing COVID-19 positive by 2 pm on Sept 7, an increase of 115 people on the previous day.

That's according to a news conference on the COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control situation in Guiyang and the nearby Guian New Area held on Sept 7.

Out of the 115 cases, 64 percent were screened during the second round of mass nucleic acid testing, while the remainders were screened during the third round of testing.

The latest COVID-19 outbreak is understood to be mainly transmitted by vegetable stalls and fruit stores. The news conference called on everybody to have mass nucleic acid tests and antigen tests, work from home and not go to or leave Guiyang unless necessary.

It was advised that anybody who has recently visited farmer's markets, fruit stores and community convenience stores stay at home and take nucleic acid tests.

Officials told the news conference that all pandemic prevention workers should pay close attention to the needs of old people, children and the handicapped and provide policy advice, counseling and regular and timely food deliveries.
