Xiuwen Bouyei people celebrate Liuyueliu festival

Members of the Bouyei ethnic group of Xiuwen county, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, celebrated the traditional Liuyueliu festival on July 4 in Damu village of Liutun town, located in the county.

Liuyueliu, which falls on the sixth day of the sixth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, is celebrated by many ethnic groups, such as the Miao, Bouyei, Tujia and Zhuang, with some variations in style.

On the day, songs, dances, cucurbit flute solos, saxophone quintets and other performances won applause and cheers from the audience.

There were also activities such as Bouyei singing in antiphonal style, basketball games, a long-table banquet, ciba (a glutinous rice cake) making, and a bonfire party, attracting many locals and tourists.

The event aimed to show the spiritual outlook of the Bouyei people, enrich the entertainment life of the public, promote rural tourism in Xiuwen, and boost rural vitalization by carrying out traditional festival cultural activities and ethnic folk cultural activities.
