Construction of the main structure of the Kaizhouhu Bridge in Kaiyang county – under the jurisdiction of Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – was officially completed on Nov 25.
The bridge is a part of the Weng'an-Kaiyang Expressway, which is scheduled to open to traffic on Nov 30.
Completion of the bridge is widely said to have laid a solid foundation for the opening of the expressway on schedule.
The bridge is 1,257 meters long and stretches over the canyon of the Luowang River.
The Weng'an-Kaiyang Expressway connects the Yinchuan-Baise Expressway in Weng'an county with the Lanzhou-Haikou Expressway in Kaiyang county. It has a design speed of 80 kilometers per hour and accommodates four lanes.
When opened to traffic, it will shorten the driving distance between Kaiyang and Weng'an from 110.8 kilometers to 48.52 km, while the travel time will be shortened from 1 hour and 41 minutes to just 46 minutes.
The project is believed to be of great significance to the improvement of the expressway network in Guizhou province, as well as to the construction of the expressway loop for the economic zone in central Guizhou province.
The expressway is also expected to boost the regional economy, support new-model industrialization and urbanization – and contribute to the construction of a world-class phosphorus and phosphorus chemicals production hub in central Guizhou.
