Guiyang preserves talents to boost city development

Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has set a goal to preserve 1.6 million talents including 200,000 researchers and developers by 2025.

To achieve the goal, Guiyang has made 11 talent development plans according to industrial development needs. The capital city will also screen major industries, adhere to talent needs, coordinate the development of industries, implement an innovative approach, and increase the attraction of industrial development to talents.

Guiyang has also continued to attract local Guizhou talents and young talents, launch talent cultivation plans, encourage university graduates to start businesses or seek employment in the city, and build national and provincial research centers and labs to attract more innovative talents.

Since the beginning of this year, Guiyang has introduced more than 2,400 talents that work in key industries or are in short supply, and has cultivated more than 700 young talents.

It has also established two academician workstations, three post-doctor workstations, one national key lab, two key engineering research centers, three provincial business incubators, one provincial key lab, one provincial engineering technology research center, and 15 expert workstations.

Guiyang strives to optimize the working, service and social environments as well as policies for talents and companies. To support companies involved in key industries, Guiyang has launched 33 talent policies to help companies reduce employment costs, improved housing supply for talents, and promoted the coordination between universities, businesses and research groups by encouraging university and institution researchers to start businesses in the city.

So far, Guiyang has offered 50.88 million yuan ($7.97 million) in talent subsidies, issued 30 million yuan worth of research funds, and invested 61.78 million yuan in R&D funds.

In addition, Guiyang has established a service team of 3,503 people to offer talent services for 1,780 companies. Since the beginning of this year, Guiyang has helped the companies establish 40 platforms, solve 172 problems, and start 58 projects.
