At a sub-forum themed around "green, low-carbon and cyclic development and global ecological civilization construction", Hou Zhengmeng, academician of Germany's Earth Sciences and Geotechnical Engineering Academy and professor at Clausthal University of Technology, delivered a speech.
The sub forum was part of the 2021 Eco Forum Global and was held in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, on July 12.
Hou's speech, titled "Germany's Energy Transition: Lessons for China", discussed two approaches to realize carbon neutrality.
The first is to transform energy into renewable energy sources, which is also known as the carbon-negative and hydrogenation process, to realize the transformation of cyclic economic development from high-carbon to low-carbon.
The second is to improve energy consumption by producing, storing, and consuming from renewable energy sources.
Hou said that a sustainable hydrogen and natural gas based energy system should be established, and an energy system using digital technology should be developed.
