Guiyang city – capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – launched an intelligent traffic service platform called GY Taxi Smart Cloud on June 17.

The platform collects data through terminals installed in cars and QR codes positioned in taxis to enable monitoring, real-time dispatches of vehicles, early warnings of abnormal conditions, as well as helping with the prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Passengers can also pay their taxi fares, submit suggestions or complaints, find lost property and share their travel plans with others using the platform. Traffic-related municipal departments can also make decisions based on the data it collects.

To date, the platform has been installed in 18,000 taxis in Guiyang, involving more than 40 taxi companies and 30,000 taxi drivers, and its registered users have exceeded 1.5 million.

Taxi owners can issue electronic invoices through the platform to improve efficiency and lower costs. It has been estimated that its electronic invoice service can save 2 million yuan ($309,229) in costs and 3,650 minutes in working time for Guiyang's 18,000 taxis in one year.

According to the Guiyang transportation committee, the online car-hailing service of the platform will be assessed annually to improve the travel experience of users.
