During the 2021 Big Data Expo, which will be held in Guizhou's provincial capital Guiyang on May 26-28, special awards will be given out for technological achievements in preventing, controlling and treating COVID-19.
The expo's scientific and technological achievement award has received applications from anti-pandemic technological projects, several of which have entered the final review stage.
One of the projects is a big data monitoring platform from China Telecom's branch company for cloud computing. It uses China Telecom users' location information to monitor population flow to help government departments evaluate pandemic risks and make prevention plans.
By the end of February 2020, the platform had been applied in 28 cities and four districts and counties across 12 provinces, serving 38 clients and providing big data analysis for pandemic prevention and control.
Another project that has entered the final review is a medical waste management system developed by Wuhan South Sagittarius Integration Co. The system helps Wuhan's ecology and environment bureau to supervise and manage medical waste and prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
The system provides real-time location tracking for medical waste transport trucks. Users can supervise whether the transport trucks are traveling on the planned routes by comparing their actual travel route with the plan.
Since being put into use in March 2020, the system has improved the security of medical waste disposal, ensured Wuhan's medical waste items were stored for no more than 24 hours and prevented the further spread of the novel coronavirus.
