The 2021 China International Big Data Industry Expo (Big Data Expo) held a press conference on April 22 in Beijing, introducing the basic details of this year's expo, which will be held on May 26-28 in Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

According to the press conference, the 2021 Big Data Expo is the first international large-scale big data exchange event since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The expo will be held both online and offline and include opening and closing ceremonies, six high-end dialogues, 10 forums, online and offline exhibitions and big data competitions. It will also feature release conferences for big data technical achievements.

So far, about 200 enterprises have confirmed their attendance at the expo, including Huawei, Baidu, Tencent, China Mobile, Inspur and Toshiba. About 600 projects from enterprises, universities and research institutions have applied for the expo's leading scientific and technological achievement award.

In addition, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Secretariat, Israel's consulate general in Chengdu and South Korea's North Jeolla Province will hold big data activities during the expo.

The expo has created an online platform for promotions, exhibitions, business negotiations, forums and interviews, allowing people worldwide to enjoy the event. International experts, scholars, entrepreneurs, research institution leaders and consulates general and embassies in China will hold online and offline discussions on the latest achievements, technologies and developments in the big data industry.

According to pandemic prevention and control requirements, the expo will prepare masks and hand sanitizer for the guests, disinfect commuting vehicles, hotels and expo venues regularly, install infrared thermometers to check body temperatures and limit the number of expo visitors.

Since it was first held in 2015, the expo has become a top global platform for big data cooperation, creating opportunities for Guizhou's big data development and sharing China's big data experience with the world.

As one of the core areas of Guizhou's national big data comprehensive pilot area, Guiyang and Guian New Area had more than 5,000 big data enterprises in 2020, including 117 enterprises with annual sales of 20 million yuan ($3.08 million) or more.

Last year, Guiyang and Guian's added value of the digital economy was 164.9 billion, occupying 38.2 percent of the areas' GDP.
