Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has been selected as an ideal location for data centers due to its cool weather, clean air and steady geologic structure. The city is now commonly referred to as "China's data valley."

The data centers of three major carriers, China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom, are all located in Guiyang. Companies such as Apple, Huawei and Tencent have also set up their data centers in the city.

Guiyang's transformation into "China's data valley" has attracted countless young people to come and chase their dreams.

Qian Xiaobin, chief technology officer of Guizhou Covision Science and Technology Co, was born and raised in East China's Zhejiang province. He seized the opportunities offered by big data development and started a business in Guiyang after years of working in Beijing.

"We held the first live attack and defense exercise with real targets in urban cyberspace in 2016. The following year, in 2017, we advocated building the National Cyber Range for Big Data Security and the big data security industry demonstration zone in Guiyang," said Qian.

Li Min, a major in software testing and processing management, was previously working in Beijing and chose to go back to her hometown, Guiyang. She decided to return because she missed the taste of her hometown's food.

Li also wants to take advantage of the big data industry's growth.

"The big data industry is booming in Guiyang, and I happen to be a software test engineer, so I test software and manage the processing. The big data industry is a perfect match for my expertise," said Li.

More and more natives and non-natives are choosing to make a life in Guiyang, which provides support to the city's sustainable economic development and shows that the city is committed to the next round of economic reform.
