Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, is among China's first batch of pilot cities for culture and tourism consumption, according to a notice recently released by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Finance.

The pilot cities will help develop tourism consumption at multiple levels and were selected based on various criteria.

By 2022, China will establish 200 pilot cities and 30 demonstration cities to improve the culture and tourism consumption systems, optimize the consumption environment, and enrich culture and tourism products.

In recent years, Guiyang has accelerated the integration of culture and tourism, developed scenic spots, improved tourism services, stimulated tourism consumption and strived to become a tourism city known for its ideal environment.

During the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday in October of last year, Guiyang achieved a total tourism revenue of 10.63 billion yuan ($1.63 billion). At the 11th Guiyang Tourism Industry Development Conference held in September, Guiyang signed 15 tourism projects with a total contract value of 20 billion yuan.
