According to a report on the development of the big data industry in China which was released in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province on May 27, Guiyang's big data development index ranks eighth among 31 major cities, while Guizhou ranks fourth among 31 provinces.

Compared with previous results from 2016 to 2018, most areas in China have seen rapid growth of the big data industry. The report points out that the western China region not only achieved progress in the big data development index, it also had faster growth than other areas.

Of the big data development index growth in West China, 18 percent is contributed by Guizhou.

The index has become a major standard to evaluate the development of big data in China. This year's report further improved the evaluation system by adding a consideration of big data's development focus and its latest progress, which can maintain the system's dynamism and stability.

In recent years, Guizhou has issued various policies to promote the integration of big data with other industries, especially in the digital economy, digital government and data innovation. With these efforts, Guizhou has ranked among top 10 provinces in the big data development index for four consecutive years.

With the big data strategic action plan in implementation since 2019, Guiyang has accelerated the integration between different industries, improved innovation capability, and enhanced information infrastructure, which has laid a solid foundation for the economy's sustainable development.
