Liverpool is the capital city of Merseyside, covering an area of 199.6 square kilometers and a population of 864,122 in its urban area. The city enjoys a mild and humid climate with average temperature between 10 degrees and 32 degrees all the year round. Liverpool is a renowned British business center, the second largest metropolitan area in the country and home to its second largest trading port. Liverpool is a major center for ship repair and manufacturing in the UK，and also an important passenger port, with regular services to other major global ports，whose foreign trade accounts for one quarter of the country's total foreign trade. It is ranked first in the UK for exports, and second only to London in imports. 

Liverpool has been recognized as the best tourist city in the UK by the National Tourist Board, and was selected as the 2008 European Capital of Culture.

Liverpool and China are longstanding trade partners, which can be traced back to the Qing Dynasty (1636-1912). Liverpool's Chinatown is the first Chinatown established in Europe.
