Guizhou-made wind power project begins operation in Argentina

2020-02-28

The first batch of wind turbines of the Loma Blanca II project in Argentina constructed by POWERCHINA's Guiyang Engineering Cooperation Limited recently started to generate power, becoming the largest wind power generation project in South America.

The project is located on the east coast of Argentina and is composed of five wind power projects, including 109 wind turbines. Currently, all the wind turbines have finished the concrete placement of foundations, while 77 of them have been also assembled.

The grid-connected capacity of the wind turbines completed this time is 51.2 megawatts, occupying 14 percent of the entire project. When the project starts to generate power at the end of this year, the total grid-connected capacity will be 354.6 MV, which means it will reduce about 6650,000 metric tons of standard coal and 1.8 million of carbon emissions per year for Argentina.

According to an Argentine engineer of the project, the Belt and Road Initiative brings wind power and photovoltaic power generation projects from China to Argentina, which increase the investment and job opportunities in the country.

Lei Shengjun, general manager of the overseas business department of POWERCHINA's Guiyang Engineering Co, said that international projects have higher requirements in language, standards, finance, taxation, and contract management compared to domestic projects, as well as unpredictable security and exchange rate risks.

However, we have confidence in overcoming any difficulties, while continuing to expand overseas markets to promote China's technologies, added Lei.
