The 2019 ASEAN-China (Guiyang) Belt and Road Culture and Tourism Exchange Week kicked off in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province on Aug 29, which will last until Sept 3.

In recent years, Guizhou has achieved great success in economic, trade, and cultural exchanges with countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Guizhou hopes to take advantage of its mountain tourism to provide high-end cultural tourism products for international tourists.

According to Chen Dehai, secretary-general of the ASEAN-China Center, the event will be an opportunity to promote the cooperation between Guizhou and ASEAN in trade, investment, education, culture, tourism, and media to benefit people of all involved countries.

As one of the hub cities of the BRI, Guiyang is striving to become an influential city known for internationalization, as well as middle and high-end manufacturing in West China. The event will become a platform for Guiyang to expand cooperation areas and share opportunities of the BRI construction.

During the opening ceremony, Guiyang signed a memorandum of cooperation with Penang Island, State of Penang, Malaysia, as well as cooperation agreements with various enterprises in cultural tourism.
