In 2018, the trend of sound economic development continued in Guiyang. Its gross domestic product (GDP) rose 9.9 percent to 379.85 billion yuan ($55.33 billion); total consumer goods retail earnings were 129.947 billion yuan, up 8 percent; and fixed asset investment saw growth of 15 percent. Economic growth for the city looks to achieve its sixth successive year of ranking first among China's capital cities as the size of the economy continues to grow. It ranked 49th on the all-around moderate prosperity index among the country's 294 prefecture-level cities and was named one of China's influential cities for the year.
