Popular among all the subgroups of the Miao ethnic group, the Lusheng dance is performed to the rhythm of the Lusheng, a reed-pipe wind instrument. It consists of chang (field/venue, lit.) dance, caichang (stamp/tread on the field/venue, lit.) dance, sacrificial dance, competitive dance, and self-entertainment dance. In terms of size, it can be classified as group dance that's notably known in the Gaopo area, duo dance (also known as footsteps following) such as the one from Xinzhuang area, and solo dance, the best one of which is performed by Xiong Yunming, a master of Lusheng. His Lusheng dance is included in the Chinese Folk Dance Collection – Guizhou Chapter.
