Guiyang Baihua Lake is located about 22 kilometers northwest of Guiyang and boasts more than 100 islands. The scenery is reminiscent of that along the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Baihua means "one hundred flowers" in Chinese, referring to the abundance of flowers surrounding the lake which come into blossom from March to May, the ideal time to visit. Egrets and wild geese can be seen gliding above the water, with mandarin ducks being a common fixture as well. Tourists can take a rowboat out onto the waters and enjoy the serenity of nature.

Baihua lake is renowned for its natural beauty and surrounding karst landscape. It has around 50 scenic spots in total, 23 of which have been opened to the public. Bird Island is a popular spot during the spring and winter months, when hundreds of birds can be seen hovering above the surface of the lake. Three small villages, several dozen fisherman, and a plethora of docked boats complete the picturesque scene.

Baihua Lake scenic area includes three parts: Middle Lake, South Lake and North Lake. Zhuchang Fortress, built during the Ming Dynasty, sits at the southeastern bank of Baihua Lake. The 2,000-meter-long military fortress has two city gates which guarded the troops stationed there. There are three stones on top of the mountain known as the "three generals". Tourists will have the chance to experience dilapidated city walls, crenels and artillery from a bygone era.
