The UIPM Pentathlon World Championships 2026 came to a spectacular close on Aug 30 with a grand closing ceremony at Huaxihu Park in Huaxi district of Guiyang.

Athletes from more than 50 countries and regions, international sports officials, and Chinese and international guests gathered by Huaxi Lake to attend the finale, witness moments of glory, and bring this premier international event to a successful conclusion.

With the executive committee of the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) in attendance, Huaxihu Park was inaugurated as the UIPM Pentathlon Park.

This designation reflects the international sports body's recognition of Huaxi's outstanding natural ecology, professional competition venues, and proven event-hosting capabilities.

It also adds a new international sports title to Huaxi, which will continue to promote the popularization and regular staging of the pentathlon while boosting the integrated development of national fitness and high-quality sports tourism.

A solemn flag-handover ceremony was held, during which the event flag was passed to the next host city, Budapest in Hungary.

Following the formal proceedings, the closing ceremony transitioned into a lakeside music festival, kicking off a city-wide celebration.

Moving forward, Huaxi will continue to deepen its integrated development of culture, sports, and tourism, further strengthening its international events. By utilizing sports as a driver for urban development, Huaxi aims to keep the spirit of sport alive and thriving amid its picturesque landscapes for years to come.
