As the sweltering heat gradually fades and the chorus of cicadas softens, Guiyang unfolds a magnificent floral spectacle. Here is your curated guide to the city's early-autumn flower destinations – save it for a leisurely weekend getaway.
Shilihetan in Huaxi district
In early autumn, the riverside landscape sheds its lush summer green for a milder, more elegant scene.
Both banks retain their greenery, but now galsang flowers and sulfur cosmos bloom sequentially, their vibrant patches flowing along the water's edge. The clear river, lush plants, mountains, water, and flowers combine to evoke a rich autumnal ambiance.
Bloom period: Peak in August, lasting until mid-September
Tips: Ideal for short excursions, picnics, and strolls – immerse yourself in the city's natural autumn beauty.

Yangchang Huahua Town in Wudang district
Here, spiny spiderflowers are in full splendor, with graceful, airy blooms in vivid colors; dahlias stand tall with elegant, full-bodied blossoms. The well-arranged array of flowers decorates the entire town in brilliant hues.
Bloom period: August to mid-October
Tips: With a wide variety of floral species, this town offers great autumn viewing and is perfect for family outings and photo-taking.
Yongle Flower Sea in Nanming district
Unlike the vibrant blossoms of spring and summer, the early-autumn pink muhly grass sea is hazy and ethereal. Delicate flower spikes grow in dense clusters, swaying gently in the breeze like rosy clouds — an atmosphere full of dreamy charm.
Bloom period: Lasts until early November
Tips: Self-driving is recommended. Wear light-colored clothing to complement the pink hues for clean, soft photos.
Gaopo township in Huaxi district
After autumn arrives, Gaopo becomes Guiyang's most soothing mountain retreat. The cool mountain climate ensures a slow, gentle autumn that stays. The extensive verbena, past their summer peak, now spread into a soft purple sea swaying in the autumn breeze, dotted with blooming sulfur cosmos.
The interplay of purple and yellow creates a healing palette unique to the autumn mountains.
Also on the same plateau, Shimen Flower Sea presents a different autumnal scene. With the cool high-altitude climate, galsang flowers and zinnia elegans bloom in succession, painting the slopes with colorful patches. In the distance, windmills stand quietly, and the vast, open fields exude a distinct highland autumn feel.
Bloom period: July to October
Tips: Temperature drops significantly between morning and evening – bring a light jacket. The sunset hour offers the best atmospheric views.
Zhenshan village in Huaxi district
In Zhenshan village, the golden rain trees are the first to signal autumn. This waterside Bouyei ethnic stone village, with its gray stone walls and slate houses nestled around the lake, is dotted with golden rain trees.
From a higher vantage point, fiery red golden rain trees adorn the gray-tiled roofs, while the shimmering waters of the Huaxi Reservoir lie below – ancient village, lake light, and autumnal tree colors blend into one harmonious scene.
Bloom period: August to October
Tips: Self-driving is advised. You can also take a boat ride on the lake; the elevated viewing platform offers the best panoramic shots of the golden rain trees and the lake.
Autumn is never an ending, but a gentle continuation. Guiyang's autumn stretches its bloom season long enough that you can set out any weekend to enjoy this floral chapter – without haste and worry.
