Since the start of summer, Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province have utilized their cool climate and mountain sports assets to tap into the peak summer tourism season. By hosting high-profile sports events, Guiyang and Gui'an are giving a strong boost to the local event-driven economy.

From July to September this year, in coordination with various partners, Guiyang has rolled out more than 500 competition sessions across over 150 sports event categories. Among them, more than 30 key premium events – including the UIPM Pentathlon World Championships 2026, the World Climbing Asia Youth Championship Guiyang 2026, and the World Climbing Series Guiyang 2026 – have fully empowered the summer retreat season, creating a summer sports atmosphere characterized by "weekly events, monthly highlights, and citywide buzz".

Beyond competing and watching the events, domestic and international athletes and tourists have taken the opportunity to explore Guiyang's scenic landscapes, savor local specialty cuisines, and experience its diverse cultural charms, fully immersing themselves in the ecological advantages and urban vitality of "Cool Guiyang".

Guiyang and Gui'an have launched an innovative "ticket stub + summer retreat tourism" initiative this summer. Relying on ticket stubs from various sporting events, they have introduced multiple exclusive benefits, including free admission to scenic spots, hotel accommodation discounts, dining and retail offers, and cultural tourism gift packages. This approach has encouraged participating athletes and visiting spectators to extend their stay and explore a broader range of destinations.

Moving forward, Guiyang and Gui'an will continue to deepen their focus on event-driven economy during the summer retreat season, further optimize the summer sports event calendar, enrich the "sports+" integrated business formats, and improve supporting event services.

This will help maintain the energy of sports events, keeping urban vitality active and providing a consistent boost to the summer economic growth in Guiyang and Gui'an through sports-driven momentum.
