Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has secured the seventh spot in the 2026 China Summer Habitat Suitability Index for Migratory Retirement.

The elderly care research team at the Institute of Industry Research, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, has been releasing the China Habitat Suitability Index for Migratory Retirement twice a year since 2019, covering both winter and summer seasons. This release marks the seventh edition of the summer index, with Guiyang listed for seven consecutive years, consistently ranking among the top cities.

As a key central city in Southwest China and the country's first national forest city, Guiyang boasts a superior ecological environment, a pleasantly cool climate, stunning natural landscapes, rich cultural and historical attractions, diverse ethnic cultures, and a well-connected comprehensive transportation network – all of which provide a solid foundation for the development of migratory retirement and wellness tourism.

Guiyang enjoys an average summer temperature of just 22.3 C, with negative oxygen ion concentrations exceeding 10,000 per cubic centimeter. It has been designated "China's summer retreat capital" by the Chinese Meteorological Society and is home to over 40 national A-level and above tourist attractions and more than 7,300 tourism resources.
