In the early morning or at dusk, sunlight gilds the terraces with a warm golden hue. The field ridges trace graceful curves, contrasting beautifully with the scattered white-walled, black-tiled houses.
In the distance, layered mountain ranges stretch into the horizon, while mist and clouds drift slowly through the peaks, making the pastoral scene as picturesque as a painting. The greenery along the ridges blends with the golden rice ears, and occasional birds skimming over the water add a touch of vitality to the tranquil setting.

The terraced fields in Shimen village are not only a gift of nature, but also a living heritage of local farming civilization. Over hundreds of years, the ancestors of the Miao people reclaimed these terraces as far as the mountainous terrain would allow.
Today, these terraced fields continue to serve grain production while becoming a popular eco-tourism destination on the outskirts of Guiyang. They attract photography enthusiasts and tourists who come to capture the interplay of light and shadow, as well as experience the peace and beauty of rural life.
