CCTV-13's Morning News broadcast a report on Feb 26 about the 2026 Spring Festival film season, showcasing how cinemas across China are moving beyond traditional movie screenings, transforming into diverse cultural hubs for the Chinese New Year.
The report spotlighted Guiyang's Yuejie Cinema, which has introduced a "movie+" initiative that integrates food, scenic spots, and hotels through diversified linkages. During the Spring Festival holiday, the cinema generated 1.5 million yuan in box office revenue, marking a nearly 20 percent year-over-year increase. Attendance exceeded 23,000, with over 40 percent of moviegoers being out-of-town visitors drawn specifically to the cinema, making it a new driver of local holiday consumption.
"We have developed multiple 'ticket stub economy' scenarios, such as our intangible cultural heritage food city and collaborations with hotels and scenic areas," said Feng Zhipeng, the cinema's regional manager. "This one-stop consumption model offers significant discounts and convenience to moviegoers while enriching and expanding their consumption experiences."
Ding Zixuan, a tourist from Hunan province, shared: "I heard that Guiyang has the widest IMAX-GT screen in Asia, so I came specifically to watch a movie. There's also an intangible cultural heritage food city downstairs, where I can sample many local Guizhou specialties. It's very convenient."
