A research team from Guizhou Huanye Xunyi Education Technology Co recently discovered a new species of stag beetle in Wudang district of Guiyang, which has been formally named Falcicornis banjinshuaii.

The findings were published in the internationally recognized journal Zootaxa, marking another significant achievement in biodiversity research for the Guiyang region.

The discovery of this new species in Guiyang's outskirts not only enriches the stag beetle species record in Guizhou province, but also provides an important case for assessing and protecting urban biodiversity.

The research team emphasized that this discovery highlights the critical role of remnant native vegetation in sustaining insect diversity within urban environments. They advocate greater protection and restoration of near-natural forest patches in cities to preserve habitats for more native species.
