China, Japan, South Korea weiqi tournament kicks off in Guiyang

The 2025 "Yangming Cup & Polar Bear" China-Japan-ROK Weiqi Masters Invitational Tournament commenced on Oct 31 in Guiyang, bringing together 16 top professional players from China, Japan, and South Korea, who competed in four rounds over four days.

The competition followed a fast-paced time control system, with each player being allotted one hour and 40 minutes of basic time and 30 seconds per move. Timeouts result in an automatic loss, making the tournament a comprehensive test of the players' skills, experience, mental resilience, and physical stamina.

During the opening ceremony, the Chinese Weiqi Association and the Guiyang Municipal People's Government signed a strategic cooperation agreement to promote the development of the weiqi industry. Additionally, weiqi world champion Tang Weixing was appointed as weiqi culture ambassador for Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area.

To ensure the event's smooth operation, Guiyang organized a multilingual volunteer team and launched an official WeChat applet that integrated competition schedules, transportation, tourism information, and other services, providing a one-stop experience for participants and attendees.
