The 2026 World Brewers Cup (WBrC) China Championship concluded on July 19 at MixC Guiyang in Nanming district, Guiyang city, Guizhou province, marking the first time the prestigious global coffee competition has been held in Southwest China.

The event brought together more than 40 top brewers from nine regional competitions, while the accompanying coffee festival featured 68 domestic and international coffee brands.

Through a series of competitions, exhibitions, and exchanges with world coffee champions, Guiyang showcased its growing influence as a "coffee champion city".

During the event, the "World Coffee Champions in Guiyang" program connected global coffee expertise with local industry development.

Anthony Douglas, the 2022 World Barista Champion, visited Guiyang to share some of his brewing techniques, conduct practical training, and exchange ideas with local coffee professionals.

Guiyang's rise as a coffee destination is backed by more than two decades of industrial development.

Since 2005, the city has cultivated a vibrant specialty coffee scene, with local brewers increasingly gaining recognition on the global stage.

In 2025, Guiyang brewer Peng Jinyang won the World Brewers Cup, bringing more international attention to the city's coffee culture.

Today, Guiyang has more than 3,000 coffee-related businesses and is home to over 10 world and national coffee competition champions and judges.

The city has also developed distinctive coffee experiences by combining coffee with its karst landscapes, rural tourism, and local flavors, including specialty drinks featuring regional ingredients such as roxburgh rose and baijiu.

To further develop its coffee industry, Guiyang has promoted full-chain growth from cultivation and processing to consumption and talent training.

The city has introduced industry standards, launched financing support programs, established a coffee industry college, and applied technologies such as AI-assisted roasting and digital quality control.
