During the May Day holiday, Nanming district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou, became one of the most popular destinations for tourists inside and outside the province due to its booming tourism, vibrant consumption scenarios, and diverse cultural activities.

Major attractions, including the iconic Jiaxiu Pavilion, Guiyang Botanical Garden of Medicinal Plants, Hebin Park, and Huaguoyuan tourist area, received a combined 463,700 visits during the holiday.

A major highlight was the reopening of the Nanming section of the Guancheng River on April 30 after urban renewal upgrades. Featuring restored waterways, riverside scenery, and traditional-style cultural activities, the project gained national attention and became a new social media hotspot.

Commercial activity also surged during the holiday. Nanming's key retail and shopping centers recorded over 3.23 million visits, up 14 percent year-on-year, while total sales reached 179 million yuan, marking a 20.5 percent increase.

The MixC Guiyang shopping mall alone attracted 850,000 visitors during its craft beer festival, while popular lifestyle destinations such as Dolphin Plaza and Huaguoyuan Shopping Center also reported strong growth in foot traffic and sales.

Cultural and tourism events further boosted holiday spending. More than 147 themed activities were held across the district, including food expos, music performances, intangible cultural heritage showcases, and immersive ethnic-themed festivals.

The booming visitor flow also drove strong demand for accommodation. Average occupancy rates at Nanming's star-rated hotels exceeded 80 percent during the holiday, while boutique homestays reported occupancy rates above 81 percent.
