Many elderly people wish for nothing more than to be in a joyful mood while boasting a healthy body. And in Nanming district, the older age demographics enjoy a very comfortable life.

Just after lunch at a university for the elderly in Nanming, a diverse array of courses are being taught and studied.

Zhou Jinlan, a 59-year-old who harbors a strong love for the hulusi (a traditional Chinese musical instrument), has spent more than five years learning how to play it.

She said the hulusi not only strengthens her lung capacity and results in the development of useful musical skills, but also enriches her twilight years, offering more opportunities to showcase her talents.

The dance room there is equally lively, resonating with elderly people moving gracefully while beaming radiant smiles.

"The folk dance class is held twice a day, once in the morning and again in the afternoon. We have over 80 students enrolled, the eldest being 73," said dance instructor Yang Shejun.

According to Wu Tao, a teacher from the university for the elderly in Nanming, it offers 14 different subjects, including yoga, catwalk fashion, broadcasting, hulusi, photography, calligraphy, and more.

"We have approximately 4,900 enrolled students," Wu added.

In addition to the university, 21 schools for the elderly in townships or sub-districts, as well as 115 teaching points in various villages or residential communities, have been established across the district to enrich the lives of the elderly population.

In addition to study places, the banks that line the Nanming River and Zhucheng Square are also proving to be popular meeting spots for the elderly as they head there during their leisure time.

Some engage in physical exercise, many like to step outside for a walk or engage in lively discussions, and others can be seen spending some quality time with their grandchildren, basking in familial bliss.

This serves as a living testament to the district's commitment to fostering a vibrant and healthy community for the elderly.
