The Nanming district of Guiyang -- the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province -- operated 57 so-called mobile supermarkets in its Huaguoyuan area on Sept 16.

The mobile supermarkets are buses carrying products and materials needed by residents amid the new outbreak of COVID-19.

The supplies include rice, edible oil, salt and daily necessities.

Residents in need can order the materials through a WeChat app a day in advance.

The elderly who can't use mobile payment services can directly call the person in charge of their residential building to help.

The mobile supermarket operator is responsible for purchasing and distributing the ordered goods, while volunteers deliver them directly to residents' doorsteps the next day.

The operation of the mobile supermarkets is said to not only bring convenience to residents, but also play an essential role in reducing the risk of cross infection from the virus.

Moving forwards, plans are for Nanming to adjust the type and quantity of the materials supplied by mobile supermarkets based on the needs of residents and the actual situation on the ground, in terms of communities' supply services.
