The box office revenue of 10 cinemas in Nanming district in Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province during the May Day holiday reached 4.66 million yuan ($699,174.79), with a total of 130,327 people visiting the cinema.

Statistics revealed by local authorities show that both the box office revenues and number of viewers hit new records.

The box office revenue of Guiyang Zhongying Cinema Co's Huaguoyuan cinema ranked first in Guiyang for five consecutive days from May 1 to 5, generating 602,400 yuan in total revenue.

The sharp increase in the number of moviegoers and the record-breaking box office revenue are largely due to the fact that 10 movies debuted during the May Day holiday.

Meanwhile, ticket prices dropped from 43.5 yuan during the same period in 2019 to 35.77 yuan this year.

Moving forward, cinemas in Nanming district will screen more films related to the history of the Communist Party of China to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC.
