The Red Cross Society of Nanming district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, launched a campaign on Jan 13 to distribute rice, oil, milk and other daily necessities valued at 53,803 yuan ($8,291.04) to needy residents in 20 townships and sub-districts, benefiting over 1,200 residents from 411 households.

In line with epidemic prevention and control measures, only some residents' representatives received the supplies on the day of the distribution, with the rest of the goods being collected by sub-district staff members to distribute to other needy locals.

It is understood that the campaign is a project by Nanming Red Cross Society, which has been carried out annually since 2010.

During the New Year's Day and Spring Festival every year, various activities will be carried out with different themes, focusing on helping needy residents.

To date, the project has benefited nearly 12,000 needy residents in the district, and over 400,000 yuan worth of cash or supplies have been raised and distributed.
