Qingzhen is located west of Guiyang in central Guizhou province that lies in Southwest China at 106°07' E to 106°33' E and 26°21' N to 26°59' N. It is connected to Guiyang's Guanshanhu district in the east, to Guiyang's Huaxi district in the southeast, to the Gui'an New Area in the south, and to Anshun's Pingba district in the southwest.
It has Sancha River, Yachi River and Maotiao River in the west, north and northeast, and is opposite Bijie's Zhijin County, Guiyang's Qianxi and Xiuwen counties and Baiyun district. The city is about 43 kilometers from east to west and about 56 kilometers from north to south. It is about 23 kilometers from the old city of Guiyang, and 12 kilometers from the administrative center of Guiyang.
It is an important industrial base, energy base, transportation hub and tourist scenic spot in Guizhou Province, an important satellite city, drinking water source, service function area and industrial cluster for Guiyang, and an important node of Guiyang, Gui'an New Area and Qianzhong Economic Zone. It is known as the"Pearl of the Plateau".
Qingzhen is in the northern subtropical humid monsoon climate zone, with an average annual temperature of 14.1 C and an average altitude of 1,200 meters. The city's forest coverage rate is 51.45 percent, and the ratio of days with "excellent" or "good" air quality is over 97 percent.
With an average daily summer temperature of 22.7 C, Qingzhen is a summer resort and a habitable city. It is warm in winter and cool in summer, the climate is mild and pleasant, and the monsoon is obvious.
Qingzhen is known as the city of hot springs and the city of rich water. The total area of Hongfeng Lake, Baihua Lake, Dongfeng Lake and Suofeng Lake combined totals 106 square kilometers, and the accumulated water storage capacity is 2.9 billion cubic meters.
The main mineral deposits in Qingzhen include bauxite, hematite, silicon ore, barite, marble, refractory clay, pyrite and calcite. The bauxite reserves reach more than 300 million tons. It has jurisdiction over seven communities, nine townships (towns), 181 administrative villages and 40 neighborhood committees, with a total area of 1,387 square kilometers and a population of about 546,800.
It has won honorary titles such as the National Sustainable Development Experimental Zone, the National Advanced Safety Construction County, the Top 100 Summer Resorts, the National Modern Agriculture Demonstration Zone, the National Logistics Demonstration Zone, the National Rural E-Commerce Comprehensive Demonstration County, the Nominated National Civilized City, the Top 100 Counties and Cities in Green Development and the Top 100 Counties and Cities in Investment Potential.
In China's 2022 county-level tourism research report, Qingzhen made China's top 100 counties with strong tourism list for the fourth year in a row.
Qingzhen now has established three water supply routes able to transport up to 90,000 metric tons of water, covering 95 percent of the urban and rural areas.
Qingzhen city registered 29.85 billion yuan ($4.71billion) in GDP during 2021, up 4.5 percent year-on-year.
In 2023, Qingzhen achieved a cumulative industrial output value of 31.5 billion yuan ($4.39 billion), and realized 7.62 billion yuan in added value, indicating a year-on-year increase of 9.2 percent. The city's industrial fixed asset investment came in at 4.01 billion yuan, up 52.5 percent.
