Rural tourism project breaks ground

A rural tourism project was launched on May 15 in Weicheng town of Qingzhen city, Guiyang, in Southwest China's Guizhou province.

A ceremony marking the launch of the project was held on the same day, in which the industry-education integrated training base of Guizhou Vocational College of Foodstuff Engineering was also unveiled. Weicheng town, the college, and Guizhou Weidao Industrial Co signed a contract to jointly build a coordinated innovation center at the town, and collaborate on an in-depth government-college-enterprise.

The project will make full use of the 66.67 hectares of the abandoned mountainous area, and will provide space for music and artistic events, sports and rural tourism.

In recent years, Weicheng town has worked out multiple ways to increase villagers' incomes, which now consist of rent for land transfers, shares for joining cooperatives, working wages, and sales from selling agricultural products.
