Minle village in Qingzhen city, Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province, has a total area of 19.8 square kilometers and is 13 km away from the city's urban areas.
In 2022, the Qingzhen bureau of civil affairs formed an action plan for the self-governance of rural housing, in which it was decided that the village would be turned into a pilot zone.
A rural house building council was then established in the village to discuss the appearance of rural houses and illegal construction in rural areas. The result of the discussion is published and made available to every villager, offering guidance on their activities, according to Miao Hongyan, deputy director of the bureau.
So far, 801 rural households have improved their houses' appearance, and 146 households have carried out the so-called 'garden transformation' laid out in the plan. In 2022, the village received more than 60,000 tourists, who spent over 3.5 million yuan ($5,075).
